Oliver Matz received his ballet training at the State Ballet School of Berlin and joined the State Opera of Germany in 1980, serving the company as a soloist and international ambassador for 25 years.

Oliver has received numerous national and international awards, such as the bronze medal at the International Ballet Competition in Varna and the gold medals at the International Ballet Competitions in Helsinki and Jackson.

In recognition of his outstanding artistic achievements, he was appointed Berliner Kammertänzer by the Berlin Culture Senator in 1995, being the first dancer to receive this honor. For his achievements throughout his career, he was appointed Honorary Member of the State Opera of Germany in 2004.

Renowned figures and internationally famous choreographers such as Ray Barra, Patrice Bart, Michael Baryshnikov, Maurice Béjart, William Forsythe, Pierre Lacotte, Hans van Manen, Rudolf Nurejew, Roland Petit, Uwe Scholz, Yuri Vamos and Wladimir Wassiljev created roles for him as well as reinterpretations of classic narrative ballets.

He has danced around the world as a guest artist and in international galas, including performances with internationally renowned ballet companies such as the American Ballet Theater in New York, the Bavarian State Ballet, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the National Ballet of Finland, the National Ballet of Canada, the Royal Ballet of London and the Stuttgart Ballet.

He has also danced with leading international dancers such as Eva Evdokimova, Isabelle Guérin, Sylvie Guillem, Evelyn Hart, Margaret Illmann, Alessandra Ferri, Ludmilla Semenjaka and Steffi Scherzer.

In addition to his duties and responsibilities as a chief executive, he enjoys great success as a teacher in Zurich Dance Academy, teaching ballet classes for boys. Many of his students participate in world-renowned companies and have won important prizes in the main international ballet competitions.

He has been a member of the Prix de Lausanne Jury 2018.
